Generally speaking, XMRig is the best mining software available for CPU mining coins that use cryptonight, including Bytecoin and Monero. Sure, there are other options out there, but XMRig seems to outperform its alternatives in ease-of-use and performance. Today, we are going to go through the process of setting up XMRig for mining Bytecoin on Bytecoin Party.
Step 1: Download XMRig from Github
XMRig is an open-source software, therefore you can download either the binaries or you can compile it from its source, both of which can be found on its Github page.
XMRig Github Page – https://github.com/xmrig/xmrig
XMRig Download Page – https://github.com/xmrig/xmrig/releases
First off, make sure you choose the correct architecture, 32 bit or 64 bit, this can be found in your computers system preferences.
Some browsers will flag the XMRig files as a virus, this has happened for a while and is a false flag due to people packaging it into silent miners. If you are having issues downloading it in your browser, try a different browser or download it from source.
After the download is finished, open up the zip file and extract the files to a folder on your desktop (or wherever you’d like to store the files).
We won’t cover compiling it from source, as that is beyond the point of this lesson, however, they list instructions on their wiki page.
Step 2: Setup Configuration Files
Within the folder you extracted files to there should be a “config.txt” file, this is how you will control XMRig. Open this up in Notepad or your favorite text editor, just don’t use Microsoft Word.
The only section that you NEED to change is the “pools” section, this will determine the pool you connect to and make sure that you are getting paid. You can really leave every field that same, besides “url” and “user”. You will use your pools url and your chosen port (pool.bytecoin.party:3333) for the “url” section and your wallet address for the “pass” section.
Step 3: Launch XMRig
Finally, you can return to the folder that you extracted the XMRig files into, and launch “XMRig.exe” or “start.bat”. You should now see XMRig going to town solving hashes and earning you that precious cryptocurrency. Keep it running and maybe you’ll be the next cryptocurrency millionaire!
Optional Configuration Settings
Beyond the basic settings that are required to start mining, XMRig can do much, much more. There are a few other settings that can be changed to increase mining efficiency. logging capabilities, and more.
By default, XMRig will not run in the background. If you would like to run XMRig in the background, you can change the background setting to true.
By default, XMRig donated 5% of your mining power to the XMRig developers. If you would like to change the donation level then you can change the donate-level setting to your preferred donation amount.
By default, XMRig will only use 75% of your processors power, this is to keep it from burning up. You can change the max-cpu-usage to increase/decrease the maximum amount of CPU that XMRig can use.
By default, XMRig will print your hashrate every 60 seconds. You can change the print-time setting if you’d like to check your hashrate more often.
With XMRig running with your chosen settings, there really isn’t much more you need to do. XMRig will run until you close it or until you shut off your computer. You can now point your miners here and join the party. Until next time, thank you for mining with us and party on!
